Llanes |
 |
Llanes is a municipality in the east of the Costa Verde . Back in 1206, during the reign of Alfonso IX , the town was encircled by walls with battlements to defend itself from the attacks of bandits and hoods. This was as a result of the "Carta Puebla" or "Fuero de Llanes" where King Alfonso granted Llanes its liberty from obligations to the Court of the Kingdom of Aguilar and Leon.
Spread around 70 towns, villages and hamlets, the inhabitants of Llanes number to 13,133. The town has a surface area of 261,14 km bordered in the North by the Cantabrian Sea ; in the South by the municipalities of Onís, Cabrales, Peñamellera Baja and Peñamellera Alta ; in the East, by Ribadedeva , and in the West, by those of Cangas de Onís and Ribadesella.

The rivers Guadamía and Cabra indicate the boundaries with the bordering municipalities of Ribadesella and Ribadedeva , respectively. In addition, running through Llanes is the river Bedón , the longest and largest; the river ends at Puente Nuevo el Riensena . Then there s the river the Cabrales , which passes through Posada, the Ereba , which crosses Nueva and flows out to Cuevas del Mar, the Purón, known for its trout, and the Carrocedo , which concludes its course in the town of Llanes . All of the rivers flow from south to north.
The municipality of Llanes topography is the least contoured in the region. It has extensive plains of dramatic formations, such as those of Nueva that is charmingly dotted with many small valleys and hills. The region s pinnacles are found in the natural wall, the Sierra de Cuera , together with the Peña Blanca . Measured at 1,176 meters, it is the highest point in Llanes territory, followed by the Ibeu and Jo l'Alisa , at 869 meters. However, the latter is certainly no less spectacular, for they are no more than 6 kilometers from the beautiful coast.

Llanes is a historical village of Costa Verde, it gives a nice view of the Cantabrian Sea and with its long-stretch of beaches. This was a fishing village and used to have a whaling port. The village itself has numerous rivers and waterways. This is one of the places where there are cruceros baratos, where the cruise will take you along its rivers and water ways and it is the best way to explore the village itself.
Remember to take best advantage of your holiday in Llanes you should learn Spanish! And don’t be hesitant – language learning can be fun. Doing French in casino en ligne for example, or taking a trip to Spain or having a German pen-pal, it’s certainly not all about reading grammar books and memorising verbs!
