Luarca

There are numerous villages to explore in the Green Coast , and many are usually less than a two-hour train ride from Oviedo . One of the most beautiful along the northern coastline is the town of Luarca , also known as the white town of the green coast. Lighthouses and impressive gorges shape the shoreline of this quaint town. Plenty small fishing villages are scattered around its coast, with colorful boats dotting its blue waters. The narrow, medieval streets lend Luarca an ancient, cozy feel. It s such a mellow place, nestled around an S shaped cove amidst steep cliffs. Down below, the town is split into two by a small and winding river, and weaved together by plenty of narrow bridges.
Luarca
In order to fully capture and appreciate the charm of this small town, Luarca requires that the traveler make an unrushed visit. Fortunately, the presence of tourism has not become too evident. The cemetery, which is located on a small peninsula, is worth the walk thru. Here as well, we must make mention of the beautiful beach, one of the city's attractions.
During Wednesday, there s a street market in, certainly something you should not miss. On market day, vendors set up booths under tents (just in case it rains) along one side of the small river that divides the town. The merchandise sold here are of all sorts, various foodstuffs, shoes, fabrics, clothes, jewelry and even music tapes. There are even vendors with cages of live chicken and ducks.

When just driving by Luarca , you can pass by Sport for dinner (8 Calle Rivero; 34-98 / 564-1078) For $45 you can enjoy a sumptuous dinner for two. You can also opt to stay overnight at Villa La Argentina (Villar de Luarca; 34-98/564-0102, fax 34-98/564-0973) A double room is for $45.
