Observed for many years, the tradition called El Campanu involves the first salmon caught on a line during opening day. The salmon is auctioned to the best restaurants of Madrid and the fish would often sell for a large sum of pesetas. The buying price on the banks of the Asturian rivers of course reflected on the bill in Madrid . Photographers and the press were very much involved in the event. However, the recent trends on banning all commercialization of freshwater fishing could possibly have discontinued the tradition.
